23 April 2017 Current Affairs

English Language Day Observed on 23rd April
UN English Language Day is Observed annually on 23rd April. The event was established by the UNESCO in 2010 to seeking to celebrate multilingualism and Cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use  of all six of official working languages  throughout the Organisation. April 23 was chosen as the date of English Language, because it is the anniversary of both birth and death of William Shakespeare.

1st India, Indonesia Energy Forum held in Jakarta
1st India Indonesia Energy Forum was held in Jakarta Indonesia on April 20, 2017 Mr. Piyush Goyal Union Minister of State (IC) for power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mr. Ignasius Jonan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia took part in this forum. The report of 2nd joint working Group on Oil and Gas, 4th Joint Working Group on coal and 1st Joint Working Group on New and Renewable Energy, which preceded the Energy forum, were Presented to two ministers during the Energy Forum.

 World Book and Copyright Day 2017, 23rd April
The World Book and Copyright Day was celebrated on 23 April 2017 across the globe. To mark the occasion, special events were organised to promote reading, publishing and copy right across the world including India. The World Book and copyright Day is an opportunity to highlight the power of books to promote UNESCO’s vision of knowledge societies that are inclusive, pluralistic, equitable, open and participatory for all citizens.

 Cricket, Sambo were removed from 2018 Asian Games
One of the sports to miss out from the programme list of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Palembang is Cricket. Apart from the cricket, skateboarding, sambo and surfing are among the other sports which have been removed from the programme in order to reduce the burden on Indonesian Organisers. This measure was taken as a part of the series of changes aimed at reducing the total number of events from 493 to 431. Also omitted from the list are kurash and belt wrestling events.

 President of Nepal, Bidhya Devi Bhandari Visit to India
Bidhya Devi Bhandari, the first female President of Nepal, was on an official visit to India from 17th to 21st April, 2017. During Ms Bhandari’s Visit, both sides assessed the implementation of ongoing cross border connectivity projects including development of Terai roads, cross border railway lines, integrated border check posts, and cross – border pipeline for carrying petroleum products which is the first of its kind in South Asia.
