Indian Army Chief receive the honorary General title of Nepal Army
Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat was conferred the title of honorary General of the Nepal Army by Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari. General Rawat was honoured at a special ceremony at the president’s official residence ‘Sheetal Nivas’ in Kathmandu. She handed over a sword, an insignia and a certificate with regard to the honorary title to General Rawat.
Jeff Bezos – Now the World’s Second Richest Person
Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has become the World’s second richest person adding $1.5 billion to his net worth at $ 75.6 billion, according to Bloomberg’s billionaire Index. According to Bloomberg, his net worth increased by $10.2 billion this year. Microsoft Co- founder Bill Gates remained the World’s richest person and topped Forbes annual list with an estimated net worth of $ 86 billion, up from $ 75 billion in 2016.
Srinath Narayan becomes India’s 46th Grandmaster
Chennai’s Srinath Narayan is set to become India’s 46th Grandmaster after he defeated Spanish GM David Anton Guijarro at the on going Sharjah Master’s 2017 Chess Tournament. The 23 year old, who had become India’s youngest FIDE rated player in 2002 when he was just eight, also finished as joint winner in the Under-12 World Championship in 2005 in France. Srinath became an International Master at the age of 14 and crossed the 2500 Elo rating a few months back.
SV Sunil named player of the year for 2016 Asian Hockey Awards
India’s SV Sunil has been named as the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) player of the year 2016. Sunil has been honoured in the senior men’s section. While Harmanpreet was named the promising player of the year 2016. He has been honoured in the Junior men’s section. Sunil has been a key number of the Indian side over the fast few years and played a vital role in India’s successful outing at last year’s Champions Trophy where then won a historic silver medal.
President inaugurates Namini Brahmaputra Festival
President Pranab Mukherjee on 31st March Inaugurated the River festival Namimi Brahmaputra in Guwahati today (31st March). The festival tagged as “India’s largest river festival” is being organised across 21 districts of the state and will show case trade, tourism and cultural possibilities of along Brahmaputra river. Union Minister of Communications Manoj Sinha on 30 March 2017 released a Postage Stamp on cub scouts to commemorate Centenary year of Cub Scouts in India and abroad, Scouting aims to support young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development. Peggy Whitson breaks Sunita Williams Spacewalk Record
Peggy Whitson made a history when she floated outside the International Space Station. She broke the record for the most spacewalks Sumita Williams, Whitson at the age of 57, is making her eighth career spacewalk, surpassing the record of seven times held by Indian American Sumita Williams. Ms Whitson earned a doctorate in biochemistry and served as the first female space station commander in 2008.
Union Govt launches online Film Certification System
Information Broadcasting Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu launched the online film certification system “e-cine pramaan” with an aim to censor corruption and promote clean Cinema. The new system of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) will make entire process of certification transparent and efficient. The payments made during the process by the producers will go to Bharat Kosh Portal.
EI Salvador becomes first country to ban metals mining
EI Salvador, Central America’s smallest nation, has become the first country in the world to ban metals mining nation wide. The new law, supported by 70 lawmakers, bans all exploration, extraction and processing of metals both in open pits and mines. The level of environmental pollution in EI Salvador is one of the highest in the region and the availability of drinking water is the lowest.
NASA, ISRO jointly working on the project NISAR
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are jointly working on the development of Dual Frequency (L and S band) Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging Satellite named as NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR). The L-band SAR is being developed by JPL/NASA, While ISRo is developing S-band SAR.
