Current affairs 16 - January - 2016

1)   The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 came into force 15 January 2016. In this regard, Union Ministry of Woman and Child Development has issued orders for enforceable of Act. The Act had received President Pranab Mukherjee’s assent on December 31, 2015 after it was passed by the Parliament.
2)   Ace Indian tennis player Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis have won the 2016 WTA Apia International title in the women’s doubles category. In the final match played at Sydney (Australia), the top seeded duo defeated French pair Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic by 1–6, 7–5, [10–5] score.
3)   Former World No.1 tennis player Marat Safin of Russia has been inducted in the International Tennis Hall of Fame. It was announced by Russian Tennis Federation and will be formally inducted in the official ceremony scheduled on July 16, 2016. With this, he will become first Russian national to be inducted in the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Safin’s candidature for the induction into the Hall of Fame was announced in October 2015 along with Justine Henin (Belgium) and Helena Sukova (Czech Republic).
4)   The grand Annual 61st Britannia Filmfare Awards event was organized in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Bajirao Mastani with 8 awards was the film wining highest number of awards. Awards in various categories are Best Actor: Ranveer Singh (Bajirao Mastani). Best Actress: Deepika Padukone (Piku). Best Film: Bajirao Mastani. Best Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Bajirao Mastani). Lifetime Achievement: Moushumi Chatterjee. Best Debut Director: Neeraj Ghaywan (Massan). Best Debutant (Male): Sooraj Pancholi (Hero). Best Debutant (Female): Bhumi Pednekar (Dum Laga Ke Haisha). Critics Award for Best Film: Piku Critics Award for Best Actor (Male): Amitabh Bachchan (Piku). Best Actor Female Critics Choice (Female): Kangana Ranaut (Tanu Weds Manu Returns). Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female): Priyanka Chopra (Bajirao mastani) Best Story: V Vijayendra Prasad (Bajrangi Bhaijaan). Best Singer (male): Arijit Singh (Sooraj dooba hai from ‘Roy’). Best Singer (female): Shreya Ghoshal (Deewani mastani from ‘Bajirao Mastani’). Best VFX: Prana Studios (Bombay Velvet). Best Dialogue: Anupam Roy (Piku). Best Action: Sham Kaushal (Bajirao Mastani). 5)   Union Government has signed a loan agreement with World Bank for the Neeranchal National Watershed Project to improve watershed management in rural rain fed areas. The loan credit will support the watershed activities of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) in selected sites in 9 states. These states are Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan.
6)   India’s largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI) has launched dedicated specialized branch for start-ups called ‘SBI InCube’ in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It was announced by BI Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
